Ask Eliza
The majority of professionals and business leaders feel that parts of their job could be automated.   A move that would significantly reduce the burden of mundane tasks that do not address core role functions, according to a recent survey from WorkMarket.   The resulting report, 2020 InSight Report: What AI and Automation Really Mean For Work, reveals that the majority of employees believe automation would save at least an hour of their time during the work day.   With this, they would direct more of their energies to perfecting the quality of other projects, while finding ways to better serve customers.   What is more, business leaders believe that workforce automation would be relatively easy to implement.   Given the advantages, many organizations are already making this transition.
Automation stands ready to free human workers from tedious non-core tasks so they can focus on what they are most passionate about, and what delivers the most value, according to the report.   While the narrative around automation has suggested that only the most junior employees will see their jobs impacted by automation, there is as much or more opportunity for automation in the executive ranks.   The most senior business leaders report wasting more hours on non-core tasks like expense reporting - exactly the same kinds of tasks that are ripe for automation.   While AI is still in its infancy with regard to work, more than half of business leaders expect to implement work automation in the coming years.   A total of 200 business leaders and 202 employees took part in the research, which was conducted by KRC Research.

How Automation Can Boost Employee Performance
Employees spend a big part of their workday doing mundane tasks.   Find out how they would increase the value of their contributions through IT-enabled automation.

Machine Migration
74% of the business leaders and employees surveyed believe that at least parts of their job could be automated.   In practice, many employees had little idea of the capabilities of automation and based their decisions on films.

Tedious Distraction
52% of the employees said they spend at least 10% of their work day on mundane tasks that do not serve a core purpose of their job description.   In practice, job descriptions exist to stop people becoming more powerful and worth more - job titles stop people doing what is needed to eliminate useless tasks.

Roadblocks
29% of the employees said IT issues keep them from doing work that is important and that they care about, while 18% said the processing of raw data is keeping them from doing this.   In practice, IT is fighting a loosing battle of survival by stopping other people being more productive and making IT less important. IT may exist only for the preservation of IT and not for the benefit of the firm.

Efficient Engine
57% of the employees believe that the automation of routine tasks could save at least an hour of their time during the work day.   If people who are not automation experts imagine that 15% of their tasks can be automated, then an automation expert may be able to increase that to a 30% saving in the cost of doing business.

Self-Improvement
46% of the employees said automating tasks would enable them to spend more time perfecting the quality of other projects and 28% said it would allow them to find ways to go above and beyond for clients.   A key factor holding people back is the lack of automation as better tools to do their job in a more effective and productive way.

Commentary
1. Like so much research, time is the missing factor.   The fact is that AI has started, everything quoted will happen, just the time scale of when is to be questioned.
2. In my lifetime, I saw the birth of the transister that is at the heart of circuit boards that make up all electronic goods.   My grand parents saw the birth of the first flight and flew in a Jumbo jet to Australia.   My first IBM computer that ran BR cost more than 4 million pounds, but my tablets with more processing power cost less than 40 pounds.
3. Research may measure a persons fear of change. People who are comfortable, do not want anything to change their comfort level.   In practice, simple economics drives AI. When it is cheaper to use a machine than a person, then the machine is used without any emotion.   When will it be cheaper to do most bookeeping and broking by automation? - NOW, with the free benefits of less errors and nothing is forgotten.
4. Some people are shy and reluctant to ask an electronic box anything, as if they could ask a question that may demonstrate their lack of intellect.   Ask Eliza is limited by the imagination of people, how shy people are about asking for more and by people who fear change.   Some people will embrace AI and do very well, while most will be fearful of AI and wonder why they have become unemployable.
