4.7.20. Ecology Policy:
The ASP have a pragmatic ecology policy where we try hard not to harm the environment.
Each year, power and cooling energy costs are reduced and this must be good for the environment.

Moore Law:
Technology capabilities double every 18 months.   The complete database can be retained in fast memory so any management information can instantly be viewed.

Cars:
The ASP do not have an electric car policy because most electricity is generated from coal or oil that are not good for the environment.
It is hard to imagine how an electric car is any different from a petrol powered car as far as the environment is concerned.   It is easy to see that the damage caused to the environment by the manufacture of batteries and operation of is devastating.
Electricity is taxed less than petrol so an electric car may be cheaper to run, but this is an economic not environmental issue.

Data Centers:
The ASP upgrades its computers on an annual basis to achive high levels of resiliance.
By coincidence, this replacement policy means that faster machines using less energy are used with savings in power and cooling.
The switch from 200 watt CRT monitors to 35 watt TFT screens was cost justified within two years on energy savings alone.
The switch from 400 watt plasma screens to 85 watt LCD-TFT screens was cost justified within two years on energy and cooling savings alone.

New Era:
Do you remember the good old days when versions of software had to be installed on your computer and then the chaos when software updates were applied to some computers but not others.
Do you remember the cost and pain of waiting days while a new user computer was connected to the right network and servers - today a manager can add a new person in a few moments.

Micro-Computers:
1. Micro-computers with a voice (and camera) user interface are integrated into walls, floors and ceilings so property has a sense of becoming alive with sensors.   No mattter where you are, you are being listened to and watched as part of your personal security force - everything is taken down and will be used as evidence.
2. Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) means that everybody must known that any attack will be detected and will result in a greater attack or applicable legal justice to ensure that no attack will ever be successful.   Let us be very clear, my security and the security of everybody in the business is based on the guarantee that any attack will be detected and will not end well for the attacker.   MAD has an interesting characteristic - every potential attacker must fully understand that every attack will be detected and applicable retribution will happen automatically - security is not about protection its about mutual assured destruction.
3. The ten-pound Raspberry Pi micro-computer is an example of a micro-computer that is built into everything - a distributed battery powered voice and visual interface that cannot be stopped.   The intruder is hereby given adequate warning that they will be terminated by the property - this is a guarantee in the same way as jumping in front of a train or truck.   In the event of an intruder being identified in a private room that room is sealed and filled with a dense white gas that makes it impossible to see anything, impossible to breath and impossible to escape - room temperature is reduced towards zero.   MAD has proven to be much more effective than all other kinds of security measures - every protection method is eventually breached.
4. Security and ecology are based on a very large number of independent distributed systems so if any set of systems fail, all the others continue and try to compensate for any loss.   While some properties may be protected with 4 cameras, our business is protected by 400 cameras and microphones and a multiple-level security service.   Intruders expect doors to have handles and rooms to have light switches - such manual controls are purposefully eliminated to ensure that the intruder is never in a place they have experienced before.   Very low temperatures and dense white gas are expected to make it hard for the intruder to suceed in their mission. Nothing is what it appears to be - doors may not be doors and walls may move. Those very high voltage discharge sparks are very noisy and tell the intruder that everything metal is at a lethal voltage.   A mixture of acidic water sprinkler and very high voltage electic discharge generators will emphasise the fact the property can fight back without any human intervention.
5. Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) is about property and an intruder or gang of intruders.   The property is willing and able to cause destruction to every intruder even if that means the destruction of the property.   The intruder must decide if it is cost effective to them to be terminated in return for damage or destruction of the property.   Only the property and the intruder are involved in MAD - no other party is involved and no other party can make any decision.
6. Yes - Security with Mutual Assured Destruction is part of our ecology and sustainability policy.   The ecology that the business makes for itself is about survival when some others without an ecology policy may imagine its practical to take what they want with no regard to long term survival.

Water Harvesting Plan:
1. Water costs money to buy and money to recycle as waste and sewerage - costs must be minimised towards zero.
2. Two types of water exist as mains supply drinking water and stored rain water - each must be professionally managed.
3. Household water usage is drinking water with the exception of toilets that have their own local storage of rain water.   Drinking water is metered and should be used in an efficient way.
4. Car washing, gardening and external washing use stored rain water.   Rain water is free-of-charge, but storage is limited so usage must be efficient and recycled where practical.
5. Waste water from shower, basins, dishwasher, cloths washer create sewerage that mixes with toilet sewerage.   Sewerage costs are based on metered water usage.
6. Investigation: rain water is soft and can be very effective in a shower, where the rain water can be filtered and heated.   Water presure is based on storage height and water pump power. Storage of hot rain water heated by solar radiators may be practical for shower usage.

Ecology Finances:
1. The water harvesting plan is not just based on cost reduction from metered water supply, its about ecological self-sufficiency in the longer term.
2. Every gallon or litre of rainwater that is used is a gallon or litre of metered water that is not paid for, but overall cost savings are not very high.
3. Self-sufficiency when faced with drought and water supply disruption is the true reward from rain water harvesting.
4. Hydroponic food cultivation is part of the water harvesting plan and ecology policy. Water treatment includes the cultivation of koi carp that add nutrients to the water used for food cultivation.   Solar lighting of the correct wavelength is fine tuned to maximise food cultivation. Bee polination with honey harvesting is included in the total ecological policy.
5. Food cultivation has a sealed factory environment that is not subject to external weather concerns - drought, storm, frost and frozen pipes are not permitted to become an issue.
