2.1.23 Layout Font Design:
The design of any web page or document follows the same design evolution as the billion web pages that make up the Internet.   A web page is just a text message that is sent to a customers browser software on their computer, tablet or smart phone.   Internet Explorer is a popular browser, but every browse is supported including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari.
The only software involved is whatever the customer chooses to use to view and print the quotation web page.   The web page designer is not in a position to dictate or restrict what software and hardware configuration settings each customer chooses to have.

Font Families:
Applications have evolved to support customers using Microsoft Office with a preference order of font families as: Segoe.
1. Segoe is the font family installed with the latest editions of Microsoft Office.
2. Verdana is the font family installed with earlier editions of Microsoft Office.
3. Arial is the font family installed with most technical products, including Apple computers.
4. Sans-Serif is a generic font family installed on most computers and printers.
5. Where none of these fonts are installed on the customers computer then the browser and/or printer configured font family shall be used.

Intellectual Property:
Every font is subject to patents and copyright ownership of the author or owner.
Web sites does not and cannot install any fonts on any computer, tablet or smart phone - the ASP does not distribute software or fonts of any kind.
Web pages can only be shown on a screen and printed on a page using the font software installed on a customers computer and/or printer.

Documents:
The ASP does not distribute any software so only the font families that are already installed on a customers computer, tablet or smart phone can be used.
Application services deliver web pages as text messages that may become documents when downloaded or printed by a customer using the customers installed font families.
The ASP is not in a position to dictate what font families are installed on a customers computer and/or printer.

Discriminatory:
The ASP shall not discriminate .
The ASP provides web pages as text messages that may become documents when downloaded or printed by a customer using the customers installed font families.
The ASP is not in a position to dictate what font families are installed on a customers computer and/or printer.

Proprietary Font:
In 2003, FutureBrand designed a corporate logo and trademarked a proprietary font family known as "UPS Sans" as a variation of "YanoneKaffeesatz" or "DAX".   This font may be trademarked for use only by by its registered owner and it is unlikely to be permitted to be copied or used by any other party - it cannot be seen or used by a customers computer.   "32000" is the background (dark-red or chocolate) colour.
It is unimaginable that a corporation would permit their prorietary font software to be installed on all customer computers, tablets, smart phones and printers so those customer could view the web page using the proprietary font.   It is not practical and not acceptable to have proprietary font family software installed on any of our web servers.   It is expected that no customer printer will have this proprietary font family installed and will not be able to print a quotation using the proprietary font.   It is likely that no customer computer, tablet or smart phone will have the proprietary font family installed and will not be able to view a web page using this proprietary font.

Printing:
Printers are likely to support quite different font families to computers, tablets and smart phones.
Printers would not normally print coloured backgrounds - coloured backgrounds must be treated as optional.
Printers will normally reverse video so white text on a dark background will be reversed to black text on a white background.
Printers are unlikely to be able to show colour graduation - this can look bad and is not recommended.
Printers with "economy" toner settings may be unsatisfactory at printing fine lines - fine line design is not recommended.

UPS Sans:
In 2003, FutureBrand designed the UPS logo and trademarked a proprietary font family known as "UPS Sans" as a variation of "YanoneKaffeesatz" or "DAX".   "UPS Sans" may be trademarked for use only by UPS and it is unlikely to be permitted to be copied or used by any other party.   "32000" is the background (dark-red or chocolate) colour.
