ITIL 3.7.15 Physical Security

Physical Security:
It is not possible to buy a security hardware device and expect it to do everything is needed.   Physical security begins with a 24*7 active monitoring service, plus bit of hardware.
The only security control panel is a mobile phone - special dedicated panels are not cost effective.   All other sensors are small, wireless and replaceable.

Business:
The business is a security monitoring service with a monthly subscription fee.   Hardware is an optional extra, sold at cost price to maximise the benefits of the monitoring service.
Monitoring will raise alerts to friends, family, carers, and security officers who can be called out at any time of the day or night.   Every office with valuable data, stock and equipment need those assets to be monitored 24*7 - especially on public holidays when may break-ins happen.   Every shop can minimise its insurance costs by subscribing to a 24*7 monitoring service - break-ins can be reduced to minutes rather than hours.
Every company has a duty of care to provide adequate fire, water and CO2 alarms and when those alarms are continually monitored, the sensors have real value.   CCTV evolves from a minor benefit to a major corporate asset when the videos and audio recordings are professionally managed.   Remote switch-off of water mains, gas mains and electricity can be very effective in an emergency that is being monitored by battery powered cameras.

24 Volt Battery:
Solar charged 24 volt battery packs operate all the security equipment so it cannot be disabled by a criminal fusing the mains supply.   Most equipment is Wi-Fi and replicated so in the event that one device is jammed, others will continue to operate.   Mobile phone data links supplement the always-on Internet connection that is continually managed.
The overall energy cost of operating the hardware will tend towards zero for at least 9 months of the year.   Batteries can be charged from the electric mains using cheap night time units following a period of low solar energy.

Customer:
Large multi-national security vendors will target the home consumer where profit margins will be small and risks are high.   The correct initial customer is a company with an office, shop or commercial building - where the benefits are significant.
Companies have a duty of care and are highly motivated not to suffer the possibility of being put out of business by a break-in.   Companies have real assets that must be protected from insider and outsider theft, damage or flood.   A garage with 5 million in stock may have good insurance, but the disruption caused by a physical security breach will exceed any insurance delayed payout.   A shop with imported goods may have insurance to cover losses, but it may take a month to get restocked from the far east - better to minimise the effect of any break-in.   An office with valuable intellectual property designs may find that insurance does not cover the 5 years research that went into the IP that is stolen - bettwe to have 24*7 real-time monitoring.
