1.1.20 Quality Management Service:
A company without a QMS is like a boat without a rudder - it is anybody guess where it is going.
Every effort must be taken to maintain a high degree of data quality so the data can be relied upon.
A drop down list of predefined values has a consistent data quality, while a text field is only suitable where data quality is not critical.
Text fields can be assigned as integer or decimal numbers only to improve data quality.
Telephone numbers and email addresses have a style that can be enforced by real-time validation.
Name and address field words can be capitalized to provide a more consistent quality of data.

Quality Manual:
The ASP operate from their own Quality Manaual and support a Quality Manual for many customers.   Each quality manual is supported with documented working procedures that cover all work undertaken.
One of the reasons that we can deliver zero-defect software is that over many years, the source of software defects has been eliminated from working procedures.

QMS:
Symbols must be eliminated where ever possible.
An apostrophe is permitted in a persons name, but it not required in any other business data.
The use of currency symbols may be printed differently and will have alternative meanings is other countries - GBP and USD are recommended.
Unpredictable behaviour may evolve where data includes symbols that have different meaning to different computers.

Quality Management:
The ASP provide Quality Management consultancy and provide conference speakers for ISO9000 Quality Management Standards events.
Quality Management is not an expensive overhead, it is the only way to reduce operational costs and continually reduce costs into the future.
Management need to be able to understand the relationship between a short-term cost saving and a potential reduction in quality that could lead to increased costs in the future.

Work Procedures:

Training:
The ASP are able to help businesses to improve their productivity by working on documented working procedures so defects and rework can be minimized.
In so many cases, work is done by one person and then done again by onther, or work is done and the result of that work is never used.
Businesses evolve working procedures that must be reviewed and revised from time to time to maximise effectiveness.   This is also known as Business Process Reengineering (BPR) where the role of a Quality Manual can have a significant benefit on how a company operates.
