32. Health and Safety Induction

Health and Safety Induction:
1. Occupational Health and Safety is a mandatory part of every construction task.
2. Each person attending the induction must acknowledge their compliance by entering the induction unique reference number in their time sheet.
3. Terminology is not universal and induction must ensure that a common set of terms of used and understood.
4. Induction includes reference to other critical documents that are part of the induction, but not shown in this document.

2. Glossary of Terms:
OHS means "Occupational Health and Safety".
HSE means "Health and Safety Executive" as the UK regulation authority.
Induction means training at the begining of a job.
PPE means "Personal Protection Equipment" that has been tested to be within its expiry date.
HiViz means "High Visibility" that implies luminescent colours.
PAT means "Portable Appliance Testing" including trailing leads.

3. Identification:
1. Name of person being inducted.
2. Company providing induction.
3. Person providing induction.
4. Induction start date and duration.
5. Induction site location.
6. Induction Unique Reference Number.
7. Site Manager: to be notified of any potential risk or hazard.
8. First Aid Point location.

4. Checklist
1. I have boots, HiViz vest, hard hat and all other PPE required for entry to the site.   Hard hats MUST be worn at all times unless specifically told by the Site Manager.
2. I have received a copy of the site rules, read and understood them and have been made aware of the "Environmental Policy".
3. All fire exits, access and egress routes MUST be kept clear at all times.
4. I have been informed of the location of the assembly point, exits, extingishers and method of raising the alarm - as per "Fire Plan".
5. I have been informed of the first aider and the "First Aid Point".
6. If you have a first aider qualification, please tick and inform the Site Manager.
7. All tools and equipment must be in good condition and PAT tested where applicable.
8. Competence for use of plant must be shown.   Operator check sheet MUST be completed for every shift and before use.   I will cooperate with other trades on site in an efficient way.
9. Before using any access equipmnt for working at height, I MUST prove competence and obtain a "Working at Height Permit".
10. I am aware of security arrangements and agree to the right of stop and search when requested.
11. I have been made aware of the welfare facilities and agree to keep them clean and tidy.
12. I have read, understood and will follow all risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) required for any work I may carry out and I will not carry out any work without the RAMS being on site.
13. There is to be NO SMOKING on site except in the designated area.
14. I MUST obtain a permit before undertaking any form of Hot Works or/and Working at Height - see "Hot Works Permit".
15. I have been make aware of the "Site Asbestos Register" and any concerns withing my work area.
16. I must and will conduct myself in a safe mannor at all time whilst on site and report to the Site Manager any conditions that may present a risk.
17. Personnel are responsible for good housekeeping, clearing away their own waste and ensuring it goes into the correct bins.

5. General Daily Checks:
1. Wearing of hard hats is required. Check for any overhead hazards.
2. Signing in book and safety induction must be fully up to date.
3. Personnel are waering minimum PPE as required for each particular task.
4. All statutory warning and directional signage is in place.
5. Welfare facilities are adequate and well maintained.
6. All access and egress and fire exit routes are kept clear.
7. Barriers and hoardings are in place as required so site security is maintained.
8. Good housekeeping by personnel so trip hazards are minimised and the site is kept tidy.
9. Up to date fire plan and fire points have been checked and fire exits clear with signage.
10. Hot Works Permit system is followed and additional extinguishers are provided.
11. Working at Height Permit system is followed with suitable and safe equipment used.
12. Edge protection, barriers and tie boards are all in position.
13. Plant being operated safely with examination certificates checked as up to date.
14. Power tools are being used correctly and safely and are in good order.
