1. Price List Diamond Drilling:
1. A Critical Success Factor (CSF) is to be honest, open and transparent with all business associates.
2. Diamond drilling tends to be a prelude to the installation of services such as a flue, drains or electric cables.
3. The price of diamond drilling has (1) a labour cost and (2) a material cost.   Daily cost estimate is 540 pounds per day as 400 pounds for labour and 140 pounds for materials.
4. Every contract has a time duration and a quality that can vary the cost.   Value-for-money from the clients point of view is to get the best (1) cost, (2) time and (3) quality in a complete and correct contract.

1. Schedule: GBP Cost Per Hole: 2019
£25.85 for a 52 mm hole in the floor when more than 14 holes per day.
£34.95 for a 52 mm hole in the wall when more than 10 holes per day.
£28.15 for a 127 mm hole in the floor when more than 13 holes per day.
£32.55 for a 127 mm hole in the wall when more than 11 holes per day.
£37.35 for a 152 mm hole in the floor when more than 9 holes per day.
£45.85 for a 152 mm hole in the wall when more than 8 holes per day.
£85.65 for a 300 mm hole in the floor when more than 4 holes per day.
£115.75 for a 300 mm hole in the wall when more than 2 holes per day.
* These costs are typical and may be used for project estimations.

2. Labour Cost:
1. The labour cost is subject to a risk assessment that will identify the method statement with application control measures.
2. Risk assessment generally identifies the need for a two person diamond drilling team to mitigate risk to a more acceptable level.
3. Two people are needed to enable job rotation to be used as a control measure to mitigate Hand arm Virbration (HAV) risks.
4. Two people are needed to enable manual handling of the drilling rig from the vehicle to the work place to be completed with reduced risk.
5. Two people are needed to enable a person to be physically present either side of the drilling operation to prevent other people from comming into harms way.
6. A two person team with a vehicle to transport the equipment may be subcontracted with a labour cost of 350 to 450 pounds per nine-hour working day that includes some travel time.   This labour cost is subject to CIS tax of 20% - the client pays 20% of the labour cost directly to HMRC.
8. The typical diamond drilling team of two people has a cost of £400 per day.   A short term contract may see a 10% increase and a longer term contract may see a 10% reduction.

3. Material Cost:
1. The maaterial cost includes (1) expenses, (2) contract hire equipment and (3) consumables as drill bits.
2. Expenses begin with travel to and from the construction site with potential parting and congestion costs.   Standard HMRC mileage allowance is used to define the travel expense that replace diamond drilling equipment delivery and collection costs.   As a generalization, the typical delivery and collection is 32 pounds per day.
3. Contract hire of the diamond drill and drilling rig with water dust control is available form many contract hire companies for about 76 pounds per day.   A discount can be expected for longer contracts and hire charges may incrase for shorter contracts.
4. Consumables are anchor bolts and drill bits that vary considerably based on diameter and depth.   As a generalization, a drill bit can drill a total depth of 4 meters in a day before it must be re-tipped for 32 pounds.
5. A daily material budget of £140 per day would be considered to be typical.

4. Risk Assessment:
1. It is known that diamond drilling may be subcontracted to one driller where the risks can be mitigated by other means or the risk are being overlooked.
2. Labour costs can reduced with an increase in risk to people the other side of the hole being drilled and where HAV job rotation does not become a liability on the client.
3. Manual handling and rig set up times will be longer for one person rather than two, so less holes will be drilled in a day, but with a lower labour cost.
4. The typical diamond drilling unit of one people has a labour cost of 250 pounds per day, with similar material cost.
5. The cost of materials is not significantly impacted by the risk assessment.

5. Contract Hire:
1. The cost of diamind drilling rig and water dust supression contract hire has a budget cost of 80 pounds per day.
2. This cost is virtually the same if the equipment is purchased and reused for 20 to 30 days per year.
3. The cost of capital investment of many thousands of pounds has a fixed asset depreciation cost over 4 years at 25% per year.
4. Valuable fixed assets must be insured against loss and theft - insurance costs increase as the risk and value increase.
5. Valuable fixed assets must be securely stored when not in use - secure storage has a cost.
6. Diamond drilling equipment must be reguarly serviced, maintained and repaired - a motor may burn out once or twice a year.
7. Equipment must be maintained with all its paperwork and operating instructions that must be available for inspection at any time.
8. The diamond driller with their own well worn old equipment to do any job will not be as productive as the driller who has hired the latest fully serviced equipment to do the job.   Contract hire is a means to match the right equipment to do each project in the most productive way.

6. Time Duration:
1. Productivity means that the diamond drilling team with the very best contract hired equipment will drill more holes in a day and will minimise the duration of the contract.
2. A diamond driller using their one old drill for any job will be less productive and will increase the duration of the contract.
3. Where a lot of similar holes are to be drilled, then productivity can be measured in terms of 10 to 16 holes per day, depending on diameter and depth.
4. Where holes vary in diameter and the drilling rig needs to be bolted to a wall, then productivity may drop by up to 50%.
5. The key to maximising productivity is (1) to have a drilling team with job rotation to minimise HAV risk and (2) to have the very best drilling equipment to match the needs of the job.

7. Quality:
1. The quality of diamond drilled holes is dependent on the quality of the drilling bits.
2. The driller making do with old drill bits will take longer and leave hole with less quality that a driller with new drill bits.
3. Because the majority of diamond drillers use the sake kind of equipment, quality is virtually the same.
4. An experienced diamond drilling team know who best to set up a drilling rig to accuratly position the drilling bit before making a hole.   The tollerance quality for the experienced drilling team will be within a few mm of where the hole needs to be.
5. A novice driller may not have the experience to know how best to set up the drilling rig to accuratly position the drilling rig.   The tollerance quality for a novice driller will be within a 15 mm of where the hole needs to be.

8. Request for Quotation:
1. In many cases, a quantity surveyor will ask for a cost per hole.
2. The cost for a team to turn up at a site with all the correct materials to drill a single hole can be significant and will take some hours.
3. The minimum price for a diamond drilling team could be classified as a half day rate to drill a single hole - to drop in on a site after they have finished another job by lunch time.
4. Labour cost could be cut to 222 pounds where the time duration can be cut to less than four hours.
5. Material cost have the same expenses as 32 pounds and the contract hire cost as 40 pounds, but consumables could be cut to 5 pounds with a total of 77 pounds.   The total labour and material cost is 299 pounds to drill one hole.
6. To drill a second hole in the same trip has an extra consumable cost of 5 pounds so the cost per hole reduces to 152 pounds.
7. To drill four holes in the same day has an extra consumable cost of 15 pounds so the cost per hole reduces to 78 pounds.
8. The schedule provided at the begining of this document may be used for project estimation purposes.
